Artist at Work at the Ballard Locks

I met this artist on Sunday at the swing band concert.  I thought he was a different artist from a distance.  There is this guy I'd see every once in a while near Pike's painting the oddest scenes.  The painting were quite stunning in a simple sort of way.  This artist is not him but he actually knows the guy I was thinking he was.  Damn, what a small world.

Matt Bazemore (the artist above) is a painter from the Ballard area of Seattle.  If you look at his website many of his pictures are of Ballard.  Matt work is fantastic,  I love his use of bright colors. He really brings Ballard to life in a unique way. Go to mattbazemore.com and see his work, you will definitely be impressed.  My favorite painting is the coffee on the side of the 5 Spot cafe.

Dog Day of Summer

Was yesterday our one day of summer?  Everyone is dying of the heat (some literally) and we are putting on sweaters.  I enjoyed the summer day by going to the Ballard Locks.  At 2pm a swing band played.  They did my favorite song, Some Where Over the Rainbow.  There had to be a few thousand people in the park.  Every Sunday a different band plays.

Swanson's Nursery

This photo was taken at one of my favorite places in Seattle.  They have a great selection of plants, a cool gift shop and a great restaurant.   Check out the coy pond, it has some of the biggest fish ever.   If you stick your finger in the pond a fish will swim up and gum your finger.  Swanson's is at 9701 15th Ave N in Ballard.

Me in the Morning!

This is what I look like in the morning,  I look worse if I've taken Oxycodone the night before.  Got to love crusty drool, eye boogers and matted greasy hair.

Clouds on Bitter Lake

So I'm just waiting for the word as to when the operation on my butt will happen. I want to get it over with so I can get on with my life.  Another six weeks of lying on my back again.

A few weeks ago I was in the emergency room at Harborview Hospital.  I was in my room with two nurses who were both trying to give me an IV.  One was putting the needle in my left arm, the other in the back of my right hand.  If you ever had an IV put in you know they hurt,  doubly if you are dehydrated.  So I was cussing up a storm and pissing the nurses off because I dread needles.  The nurse says, "do you hear anybody else swearing?"  Two seconds later a man screams, "I've got to fucking pee, can anyone hear me I got to fucking pee!"  He was a junky strapped to a bed in the hallway. I died laughing it was so funny.

I love Bitter Lake especially near sundown.  The clouds reflected on the lake are exquisite, like a beautiful painting.

The PIC is out!

They pulled the PIC out of my arm yesterday.  No more IVs every eight hours.  A PIC is an IV put into your arm or neck.  The IV is put into a vein and goes almost to the heart.  So every eight hours I had to give myself what is called an infusion.  A pump infuses my vein with antibiotics.  The whole process takes about 2 hours because the drugs are in the fridge and need to be warmed up to room temp.  PIC's are used to treat bone infections and I had two of them.

I saw these words on the play bill wall at Pike Place Market.  There was more written but I only photographed the part that made me happy.

My pressure Ulcer

This is me after 3 hours in the OR lying face down while 2 surgeons operate on a hole in my butt.  The operation was unfortunately unsuccessful, I still have an hole in my butt.  The hole comes from sitting too long and not relieving the pressure on my back side.  So I have a pressure sore or pressure ulcer.   Its ugly to look at, my butt tissue is basically dead and it looks like chicken.  The parts of the chicken you don't eat.  These sores are very difficult to heal without surgery.

I was in Harborview Hospital for 6 weeks.  3 of those weeks I was flat on my back in a special bed that felt like an air mattress.  6 weeks of watching TV and complaining about the horrible food.  Eating was tricky while lying on my back, some foods wouldn't stay on the spoon..  Soon I will have to experience this ordeal all over again.  I just hope they have put new movies on the movie channel.  I saw Alice in Wonderland 27 times.
